Field Management• Prepare compliance reports, biological assessments, weed risk assessments and weed management plans; abundance estimates for presence/absence, and daily, monthly and quarterly project reports for both clients and oversight agencies• Manage field staff and coordinate project needs with mitigation requirements to balance most cost effective but reliable mitigation process.• Educate and train biologists in USFWS techniques for: tortoise clearance/survey, burrow and nest excavation, artificial burrow construction, providing WEAP training, recording/collecting data and sign, and relocation.• Provide Endangered Species Act Section 7 and Section 10 compliance consultations, with the protocols set forth by USFWS Biological Opinions and Habitat Conservation Plans, and perform mitigation actions as necessary.• Act as a Compliance Inspection Contractor or Field Contact Representative to ensure all environmental concerns are mitigated.Species Experience• Desert tortoise health assessments, sample collection, body condition scoring, venipuncture, and epicoelomic fluid administration.• Desert kit fox trapping, health assessments, vaccinating, marking and transmittering. • Biological surveys and construction monitoring for threatened, endangered and sensitive species (federal and state-listed species of concern), including fringe-toed lizards, small mammals, burrowing owl, desert kit fox, and desert tortoise. • Implementing desert kit fox monitoring and relocation protocols for construction projects, including identifying and determining status of canid dens and complexes.• Passive relocation techniques associated with burrowing owl management and protocol.• Artificial burrow construction, desert tortoise exclusionary fence inspection, use of a probing camera.• Conduct radio telemetry facilitated monitoring of desert tortoises and desert kit foxes, including tracking, range monitoring, follow up identification and recovery.
