ABOUT ALANA ROBERT

Alana Robert is a Litigation Lawyer at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto. She practices class actions, public law, Aboriginal law, and commercial litigation. She regularly acts for plaintiffs and defendants. Alana has appeared before various levels of court, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. Alana was counsel to First Nations in a historic class proceeding that resulted in an $8 billion settlement to address water infrastructure issues and long-term drinking water advisories on reserve. She is currently representing First Nations in claims against Canada for housing, child welfare, and treaty rights. Alana maintains significant community involvement, and recently intervened at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. She is on the Board of Directors of the Women\'s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), the Ontario Native Women\'s Association, and the Native Women\'s Resource Centre of Toronto. Alana has received the Governor General\'s Award in Commemoration of the Person\'s Case and Indspire Youth Award for her work to combat gender-based violence. In 2022, Alana was named one of Canadian Lawyer’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada in the Human Rights, Advocacy, and Criminal category. She has a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science and Economics from the University of Manitoba.
