About Alana McGuinness

My passion has always been grounded in finding innovative ways to improve people’s quality of life so they can pursue their own passions to the fullest extent.Having a mother who is a nurse, I understood at a young age how critical proper health care is to someone’s well-being. It was from hearing about the technology my mom used and the struggles she faced in clinical settings that sparked a desire to study biomedical engineering as I progressed through my academic career. From my perspective as a biomedical engineer, I discovered there was a way to utilize software engineering to tackle biomedical challenges. In the summer after my junior year, I had the opportunity to work at Medtronic Diabetes as a software engineering intern. There, I worked on algorithms for both their glucose sensor and their insulin pump. I saw how my passion could be fulfilled with software that was changing the lives of thousands of people. It’s with this combination of biomedical engineering and software engineering that I’ve decided to take my first step into the professional world. In July of 2022, I started as a full-time Software Engineer at Medtronic Diabetes in Northridge, California. There, my goal is to expand not only my technical skills, but also further enhance my leadership and collaboration capabilities. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I want to spread awareness and inclusion for all in the workplace. Please connect and follow my professional journey here!
