ABOUT ALAN MASON
I have been working in the wind industry for over 15 years and have been involved in installing over 1 GW of onshore and offshore wind. I joined Ocean Winds in 2017 as the senior electrical engineer for the Moray East Project. In this role I was responsible for managing the electrical interfaces between the substation, cable and turbine packages. I was also responsible for managing the compliance process with NGESO. Energisation and commissioning of the transmission assets started in June 2021 and the project is now fully operational. I am currently working on the transfer of the transmission assets to the OFTO. As a result of changes to the transmission network in the northeast of Scotland the Moray East grid connection is being upgraded from 275 kV to 400 kV. My focus in 2023 will involve managing the necessary upgrades required to run Moray East substation at 400 kV.
