Alan is an ESG Management Consultant with extensive international experience. He has decades of experience in ESG consulting including Sustainability Management Frameworks, Regulatory Compliance and Approvals, Social and Environmental Impact Assessment, Indigenous Partnering and Training, Environmental and Safety Management Systems, Sustainability in Design, Contaminated Site Remediation, and Triple Bottom Line Decision Support. In addition to his project experience, Alan has more than 25 years of senior level business experience, including governance, finance, enterprise risk management, human resources, marketing and operations. Alan regularly provides advice to Corporate Boards and Government Departments on issues related to ESG and is currently the independent Board member of a wind power technology start-up based in the USA.Alan was Global Technical Director – Sustainability for an international EPCM company for more than 5 years and has integrated sustainability in design on numerous projects including the Port Metro Vancouver Container Capacity Improvement Project in Tsawwassen, B.C, the Joslyn North Oil Sands Mine in Alberta, a new brownfield Bauxite Refinery, Mine, Railroad and Port Development in St. Anne, Jamaica; and the Nanisivik Naval Facility on Baffin Island, Nunavut. He was the Lead for the LNG Canada (Kitimat, B.C.) FEED team for the development and completion of permits, environmental and social performance plans in 2014-15. LNG Canada is the only major LNG project of more than 30 proposals on B.C.’s west coast to achieve both positive regulatory and investment approvals to date.In 2019, Alan worked closely with senior executives at Seven Generations Energy to develop their Sustainability Management System. 7G were recently recognized by Equitable Origins as the first natural gas producer in North America to achieve EO100 certification for responsible energy development.

Alan MacDonald is the Founder of ESG Management Solutions, a global collective of ESG professionals whose purpose is to help organizations manage risk, embed sustainability, and improve their ESG performance. More than 40 years of international experience in energy, mining, infrastructure, and technology. Created or co-created more than 20 start-ups in his career to date, including environmental technology companies, indigenous joint ventures, and international consulting businesses. Former Global Technical Director for Sustainability in Design at WorleyParsons. Extensive Indigenous partnering and capacity building experience. Alan is a pioneer in the use of life cycle assessment, risk and opportunity management, and well-done impact and materiality assessments in the pursuit of sustainable development. Alan is the co-author of numerous social and environmental guidelines, including guidance documents for Environment Canada, CCME, ARPEL; AEUB, CAPP; RRTAC, as well as government departments and numerous mining, construction, and energy companies. Currently serves on the Boards of a technology assessment company, a wind turbine start-up, and is part of the Senior Management Team for the Inuvialuit Energy Security Project.
