May 2025 — Present · Seattle, WA, US

My current project is a documentary film, in development for Human Energy. The film explores the future of artificial intelligence by placing it in the long arc of evolutionary history—framing AI not simply as a technological breakthrough, but as a potential turning point in the evolution of intelligence itself.Structured around two interwoven narratives, the documentary traces the coevolution of brains, language, and culture that gave rise to human intelligence, alongside a scenario planning process that explores possible futures for the relationship between humans and machines. These parallel arcs converge on a central question: How might the choices we make today about AI shape the next major evolutionary transition in the organization of life on Earth? The story draws on insights from evolutionary theory, cognitive science, and philosophy of mind. It examines how past information systems enabled greater cooperation and complexity, offering a roadmap for designing hybrid human-AI systems that support fairness, functionality, and shared purpose.By linking deep history to contemporary decisions we face, the film invites viewers to rethink intelligence not as a competition between minds and machines, but as a shared project in shaping a future worth living in.The video below is an illustrated interview with Terrence Deacon, author of The Symbolic Species and Incomplete Nature, in which he discusses some of the central ideas on which the documentary concept is based.
