ABOUT ALAN FORD
I am responsible for the bespoke scoping, design, costing and successful delivery of a broad spectrum of heritage work including desk based assessment, environmental impact assessments and major thematic schemes. I also provide expert witness support for planning inquiries. I have considerable experience of working on major infrastructure projects including since 2012 involvement in the successful delivery of the cultural heritage input to the ES for HS2 Phase 1 from the M25 through to the Northamptonshire/Warwickshire border, for which I was the principal technical author. I have since also been responsible for scoping and design of the heritage specification designs (high level methodologies) for delivery of the onward HS2 Phase 1 heritage programme and was the principal author of the specification design for the detailed assessment and non-intrusive survey of burial grounds. Prior to working in the consultancy environment I have 15 years of archaeological fieldwork experience, the majority of it at a supervisorial level. I have very extensive experience of working on a broad spectrum of archaeological site types and periods. Specialties: Extensive working knowledge of the application of heritage legislation and guidance within the planning process in England, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This has included experience with housing developments, road schemes and major rural and urban regeneration projects. This experience has also brought an understanding of related disciplines within the environmental process, such as ecology and landscape.Expertise in the establishment of the significance of heritage assets and defining that part of their setting that matters and why.
