ABOUT ALAN COPNER
After spending most of my career as a software consultant I decided to join my son Jordan and wife Elizabeth in the formation of Copner Biotech; where I hold the position of CTO. My first task was to develop a new CAD software to enable the realisation of superior Cell Culture Scaffolds. Developing a new CAD software from scratch was a big challenge and being an engineer I sought to simplify and break down the task; and that\'s when I came on the idea of using rectangular primitives to create models; similar to building houses out of bricks. Thus GRAPE (Graphical Rectangular Actual Positional Encoding) came to be born. Post this CAD development Jordan secured SMART Cymru grant funding to develop a bioprinter. Rather than just produce another bioprinter based on over 30 year old STL technology that was not in my view suitable for biofabrication; I decided to develop a bioprinter based on a new raster based printing technique to directly use the GRAPE data format, thus GRAPE S1 bioprinter was born. Currently I am continuing to push the boundaries of biofabrication by developing new patentable technologies; to maintain Copner Biotech\'s technological lead.
