The Social Equity & Education Development (SEED) Initiatives, sustained by a continuous allocation of $1 million from cannabis tax revenue, serves as a central mechanism for tracking, measuring, and reporting on the use of Portland\'s cannabis tax revenue. This investment is a proactive measure aimed at reconciling the wide-reaching implications of past cannabis policies. In November 2016, the residents of Portland voted in favor of Ballot Measure 26-180, leading to a 3% local tax on adult-use cannabis retail sales. This has since generated over $14 million in cannabis tax revenue, directed towards various City of Portland bureaus for initiatives such as street infrastructure improvements, DUII training, drug rehabilitation, criminal justice, expungement and re-entry services, as well as supporting small businesses that faced challenges in previous regulatory environments. In accordance with the intentions of Ballot Measure 26-180, the SEED Grant Fund prioritizes initiatives, projects, programs, or services led or owned by individuals or groups that have traditionally faced greater barriers to opportunity. These initiatives are designed to support the economic and educational development of communities that have been more severely affected by changes in cannabis regulations. The SEED Grant Fund is open to a diverse range of applicants, including nonprofit and for-profit entities of any size, community-based organizations, individuals, firms, teams or consultants. Collaborative ventures involving multiple entities, coalitions, or consortium efforts are also welcome. The fund is designed to support a wide array of projects, programs, and services, with a focus on- Education development - Entrepreneurship and economic development - Social justice Over its five cycles, the SEED Grant Fund has provided $4,379,415 in support through 42 grants. The SEED Grant Fund invites applications from organizations of all types and sizes.
