About Shahwaj Akhtar
I am a postgraduate student in Applied Geophysics at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, with hands-on academic and project experience in seismic methods, geomechanical modelling, and petrophysical analysis for subsurface characterization.My work includes AVO modelling and seismic processing workflows, log-based petrophysical interpretation, and 1D geomechanical characterization of CBM reservoirs, where I estimated stress profiles, elastic properties, and reservoir suitability under data-limited conditions. I have also worked on international case studies, including a petrophysical and synthetic seismogram study from the Ichthys Field, NW Shelf (Australia).Alongside physics-driven workflows, I have explored machine-learning applications in geophysics, such as facies classification (Gullfaks Field, North Sea) and permeability prediction, while maintaining physical - geological interpretability. I am particularly interested in exploration geophysics, unconventional reservoirs, and energy-transition–related subsurface problems, and enjoy translating theory into reproducible computational workflows using Python and MATLAB.
