Technology Lead, Digital Methods (Htrc) & Gpo Dimensional Ct (Rolls-royce, 2026-) @Rolls-Royce
Coventry, GB
Led the development and implementation of digital manufacturing solutions, optimising processes, improving automation, and introducing new production capabilities within an industrial manufacturing environment. • Led the development and deployment of 3D Computed Tomography (CT) inspection processes, achieving up to 90% reductions in scan time and cost for next-generation turbine components, while providing technical leadership to cross-functional teams and supporting enhanced quality control. • Managed the end-to-end acquisition of new manufacturing capabilities, including identification, technical evaluation, and successful deployment of commercial off-the-shelf solutions. • Led the technical aspects of the patent lifecycle, from invention disclosure through to granted status, working in collaboration with patent attorneys to secure intellectual property. • Recognised within the organisation as a Global Process Owner – Dimensional X-ray Computed Tomography (working along side GPO - NDE CT), providing specialist technical guidance and supporting the establishment of best practices.

ABOUT AKHIL MULLOTH
Over more than a decade at Rolls-Royce, I have specialised in dimensional X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), digital inspection systems, and industrial metrology for aerospace manufacturing. I am a staff-grade Manufacturing Engineer and functional Global Process Owner – Dimensional CT, working at the intersection of Digital Methods, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE), materials characterisation, and production engineering. My work focuses on translating complex design requirements into production-ready, airworthiness-aligned inspection systems. At the High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC), I lead the development and industrialisation of 3D CT inspection and CT-based metrology for next-generation turbine components. In selected applications, this has delivered up to ~90% reduction in scan time and inspection cost (internally validated) while maintaining production-grade dimensional accuracy. I work across scan parameter optimisation, attenuation management, fixture design, defect detection algorithms, metrology workflow integration, and digital inspection architecture.Within Rolls-Royce, I contribute to global dimensional CT standards stewardship, equipment specification, capability acquisition, and technical roadmap development. I am recognised internally as a Subject Matter Expert in industrial CT metrology and support the scaling of inspection capability in regulated aerospace environments.I serve as Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham (2026–2028), appointed on the basis of my patent portfolio and industrial contributions to advancing X-ray CT for materials characterisation and manufacturing science.Innovation & Professional Contribution:• Inventor or co-inventor on 4 granted patents (US and EP) with 20+ additional published and unpublished applications covering CT scan optimisation, signal-to-noise enhancement, attenuation control, automated flaw detection, and integrated high-volume CT workflows.• Technical contributor to the British Standards Institution (BSI TPR/1/11) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 213 WG10) supporting development of X-ray CT (XCT) verification standards.• Recipient of multiple Rolls-Royce Gold and Silver Excellence Awards and two Rolls-Royce Metrology Awards recognising inspection technology, cost reduction, and lead-time improvement.Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
