Liquid Rocket Propulsion Co-lead @University Of Toronto Aerospace Team

View department →

I have been the Liquid Propulsion Co-Lead for 3 years, since 2022. In this role, I have spearheaded the design, manufacturing, and testing of UofT\'s 1st liquid rocket engine, which will power UofT\'s 1st liquid rocket. Some of my major accomplishments (and my team\'s major accomplishments) include engineering and analyzing an N2O-ethanol injector for our engine and designing a custom pneumatic valve in SolidWorks and Ansys Fluent CFD. We designed a custom 2700-psi bolted pressure vessel in Onshape and verified it with Ansys Mechanical FEA and hydrostatic testing. I led the systems design of our entire testing architecture and carefully selected compatible pressure transducers, thermocouples, and load cells. Additionally, I have learned to machine (lathe, mill, drill press) and weld (arc welding, oxyacetylene) during my time on the team.My co-lead and I have led 10+ successful oxidizer and fuel cold flow tests, and presented detailed design reports and design reviews to industry professionals. In 2022, I supported operations and manufacturing as we launched Canada\'s 1st hybrid rocket at the Launch Canada competition and won 1st in the advanced category. We reached an astonishing apogee of 21 500 ft. I also manufactured, launched, and recovered a solid rocket that I built myself to achieve L1 certification from the Tripoli Rocketry Association in 2022.Before becoming a lead in 2022, I was a contributor on the Liquid Propulsion Team from 20••••22. I supported the development of a Python object-oriented liquid rocket simulator where we integrated NASA combustion analysis.
