ABOUT KAMIL AKCAY
I’m an Engineering Leader with 14+ years of experience in software development, including 10 years in the banking industry working with global financial institutions. Over the years, I’ve built and led engineering teams, delivered large-scale distributed systems, and worked across international and multicultural environments.My technical background is primarily in backend engineering with Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, RxJava, and REST/SOAP APIs, combined with frontend experience in React and TypeScript. I’ve spent much of my career building cloud-native platforms and microservice architectures, always focusing on clean code, scalable design, automated testing, and reliable delivery.As a manager, I focus on the entire engineering team lifecycle — from planning and hiring to growth, performance, and team wellbeing.I work closely with leadership to plan engineering capacity, manage budgets, and align technical initiatives with company strategy and OKRs. I enjoy building strong teams by hiring great engineers, creating effective onboarding processes, and fostering collaborative hybrid environments.A large part of my role is supporting engineers in their growth. I invest in regular 1:1s, coaching conversations, and career development, helping engineers grow both technically and professionally. Creating an environment where people feel ownership, trust, and clarity about their impact is something I deeply care about.I also lead performance and feedback cycles, including structured feedback, calibration discussions, and reward conversations. My goal is to ensure fairness, transparency, and continuous improvement across the team.Throughout my career I’ve worked closely with product managers, program managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and delivery.
