About Akash Wasil
Akash Wasil is an AI policy expert who focuses on AI & national security. Most recently, his work has focused on methods to improve the US government\'s ability to prepare for natsec-relevant advances in AI capabilities. He has written papers about risk management techniques for advanced AI, international governance proposals, emergency preparedness, US-China discourse about AI, and methods to improve the federal government\'s understanding of AI progress. He has also worked as an AI governance research manager, where he supervised the work of Cambridge AI fellows. His work regularly involves communicating key findings to stakeholders in Congress and the Executive Branch who work on AI, tech policy, national security, cybersecurity, and emerging threats. He has also contributed to requests for comments from NIST, OSTP, and the NTIA. He frequently advises government and civil society organizations on proposals relating to AI, critical infrastructure protection, responsible innovation, data center innovation and security, crisis scenarios, and risk management. Akash is a part-time student through Georgetown University\'s Security Studies Program, where his work focuses on the intersection of AI policy & US national security. Before working in AI policy, he was an NSF-funded PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania, where I published about 30 papers relating to technology and mental health (Google Scholar: He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University with a degree in psychology and health policy.
