ABOUT AKASH SHANDILYA
I’m a dedicated Biology major at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on the Pre-Med track, with a strong academic foundation in life sciences and a passion for healthcare. With a 3.85 GPA and consistent Dean’s List recognition, I\'ve developed expertise in scientific problem solving through coursework, clinical training, and research in human health and movement science.Beyond academics, I lead with purpose. I currently serve as Vice President of Finance for UMass Miracles, helping raise funds for pediatric healthcare at Baystate Children’s Hospital, and previously served as Vice President of Service and Philanthropy for Alpha Sigma Phi. I have gained valuable clinical experience as an EMT-B with Coastal Medical Transportation and through pediatric shadowing at Boston Children’s Hospital. In addition, I am an research assistant in the RTID Lab within the Physical Activity and Health Lab (PAHL), where I work with accelerometer-derived movement data to study exercise behavior and human performance. This research has strengthened my skills in data interpretation, scientific inquiry, and evidence-based approaches to health, experiences that continue to shape my goal of pursuing medicine with a strong foundation in preventative care, physical activity, and patient well-being.I’ve also honed my leadership and mentorship skills as a summer camp counselor and youth basketball coach.
