Not only in terms of investment, but also in terms of debate and controversy, Data Science has acquired a peak position in academia and popular culture. Coming from a developing country like India, I bring a different perspective to the study and practice of data science – if the glass is half empty, look at the glass half full. Because for any demerits of data analytics, including the vociferously argued privacy concerns, there is no denying the fact that it holds promise in designing more efficient mechanisms to understand how things work, and how they can work better, in aspects as byzantine as public sector. In a country of 1.4 billion people, where data is generated as rapidly as the universe is expanding, there are probably thousands of opportunities to identify trends and improve processes. Aware of this huge opportunity, I look forward to equip myself with all the knowledge that will help me dive deep and long into the applications of data science.
