About Alfred Kumi-Atiemo
I’m a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering and a student-athlete at the University of Scranton. Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, I moved to Pennsylvania in September 2013. From a young age I’ve been drawn to how electronic systems work and how components integrate to solve real problems.At Scranton, I’ve built experience in Python and Java, completed a micromouse project and several physics labs, and developed a color-detection robot using a Raspberry Pi, camera module, and OpenCV. The robot navigates its environment, identifies and retrieves colored blocks, and stacks them at a designated home location.Athletically, I started baseball and football in high school and joined Scranton’s track & field team as a sophomore, earning multiple school records and conference honors. Competing at a high level has reinforced the discipline, resilience, and teamwork I bring to engineering projects.Outside the classroom, I’ve worked at Dick’s Sporting Goods for four years—beginning as a cashier and expanding into golf club regripping, baseball glove steaming, and bike repairs and builds. Learning new skills across departments has strengthened my customer focus and problem-solving, making me a well-rounded candidate for technical roles.
