About Andrew Heymann

A thinker and problem solver at heart, working on meaningful problems excites me. Joining the military out of college, the US Navy gifted me constant opportunities to work on high-impact, strategic problems across the world. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer by training and title, I spent seven years leading small, hyper-focused teams that worked with improvised explosive threats in Asia, used commercial technology to keep vital waterways open in the Middle East, evacuated refugees from Afghanistan, and built strategic military partnerships in South America. While on travel, I constantly noticed the damage that we’re doing to our planet. After seeing purple water caused by lithium refinement runoff and trash-covered beaches caused by failed recycling efforts, I came to a stark realization: the next global conflict will be caused by problems related to global warming, resource scarcity, energy generation, and material management.I separated from active duty service to pursue a career focused on solving the global sustainability and environmental problem before it causes conflict that the Department of Defense has to solve. Joining NextEra Energy Resources as a Renewable Energy Project Developer, I’m excited to apply skills learned from seven years of military problem-solving to a career that can help improve our planet.
