ABOUT AARON FRIEDMAN
I thrive working at the intersection of science, data, and software. Currently, I am a Director of Software Product Management at Illumina, owning our Software, Data, and Analytics platforms. My product responsibilities cover BaseSpace Sequence Hub, Illumina Connected Analytics, and our cross-product capabilities (eg login, billing, etc). We\'re building for any user of omics technologies, from the computationally-oriented bioinformaticians to lab scientists. If you have feedback about our software products, please send them along!Prior to Illumina, I was building for scientists and diagnostics organizations as a Principal PM for AWS Health AI. I conceptualized, built, launched, and scaled AWS HealthOmics, which is now used today by a variety of clinical diagnostics (eg, Natera) and pharma/biotech organizations (eg, Merck). I then focused on life sciences research, rethinking the ways in which research is done with the new wave of biological foundation models, agents, and other generative and predictive applications. Before 2022, I led Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions Architecture teams at AWS focusing on startups and partners. I built those teams, helped customers bring new products to market, and pioneered new architectural patterns and practices on AWS, such as in genomics. In both roles, I was responsible for our global technical strategy & execution, team development, and customer success. We measured our success by how well we help our healthcare and life sciences customers innovate to improve patient care and accelerate science and medicine. Prior to AWS, I was the first technical employee at Human Longevity, Inc, a biotech startup delivering omics-guided healthcare solutions. I led our movement to derive meaning from genomics data. I built our first big-data genomic annotation solution, built multiple genomics reporting workflows to streamline downstream analyses, and served as a hybrid product owner/subject matter expert/developer on our Knowledgebase and data architecture teams.I received my Biomedical Sciences PhD in the McCammon lab at UCSD, where I leveraged structural bioinformatics to facilitate compound lead discovery and optimization. I graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. I am very passionate about living a healthy and active lifestyle.
