Ajay Kumar, MD, MRCP, FACP, SFHM, MBA, is the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer (EVP & CCO) for Hartford HealthCare. Hartford HealthCare is a $7 billion integrated care delivery system, comprised of 7 acute care hospitals, 500+ outpatient locations, Connecticut’s largest behavioral health network, 7 specialized institutes providing world-class care, air ambulance service, rehabilitation services, a physician group, clinical integration organization, skilled nursing, and a comprehensive portfolio of services for seniors. With more than three decades of healthcare experience, Dr. Kumar has served in various strategic leadership roles throughout his career. As EVP & CCO, he is accountable for providing strategic clinical leadership for the healthcare system’s quality and safety strategy, clinical outcomes for Institute’s and service lines, physician services, innovation, medical and nursing informatics, the HHC Care Logistics Center, academic affairs, clinical research, pharmacy services and healthcare delivery optimization. Hartford HealthCare has gained national recognition under Dr. Kumar\'s leadership, as he champions the organization\'s pursuit of clinical excellence: • Awarded the 2025 Quest for Quality Prize – the highest honor by the American Hospital Association • In Fall 2024 and 2025, all 7 acute care hospital earned “A” safety grades by the Leapfrog Group • Achieved top rankings in the nation for cardiac care, kidney graft survival rates, and orthopedic care • Earned Innovators Award from Modern Healthcare for our work in advancing healthcare through responsible, visionary use of AI Dr. Kumar completed his Medical Degree from Bangalore University, India and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians at the Royal College of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Kumar earned his Master\'s Degree in Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2018.
