About Aishwarya Deepak

I have 17 years of equity investment experience (managing a diversified multicap fund starting from 2018 and pharma fund from 2016) and 5 years of corporate finance experience with BPCL. I use a combination of top-down and bottom-up approaches for identifying the right sectors and stocks. From June 2021, I am managing Vision Fund (large and midcap fund with Rs 5,500cr size) and securing (i) second quartile performance in the last 12 months,(ii) 2.7% alpha over the benchmark. In my past assistance assignment, Pharma fund has had top performance in the last 3 and 5 years. Sectors with deep understanding include Pharma, Oil & Gas, Telecom, Metal, and Hotel. Understanding macros and charts give an edge. Fund management role since May-18 with Nippon India AMCTop two quartile performance in Reliance Close Ended Equity Fund II - Series A since May-18 (Rs 250 cr fund). The fund is ranked 15th among 42 funds for the last 1 year. Top quartile performance in Nippon India Capital Builder IV A since Jun-19 (Rs 150 cr fund). Fund is ranked at 8th among 35 funds for the last 1 year and generated alpha. Top two quartile performance in large and midcap equity fund (started managing since June 2021)I have been managing Nippon India Vision fund since Jun 21(Rs cr +). The fund has mandate to invest a minimum 35% in midcap. Fund secured (i) 12th rank among 27 funds in last 1 year (ii) generated an alpha of 2.7% over BSE250 index in last 12 months. I use macro understanding for positioning (bond yield, dollar index, commodity cycle, business cycle, capex cycle, credit cycle) and invest in companies with the following characteristics Pick co with high RoCE, secular growth prospects, free cash generation, appropriate capital allocation, manageable leverage, and a high degree of corporate governance Companies that are cyclical in nature, likely to see a significant pickup in earnings as the cycle is turning. Avoid sectors which is likely to face headwinds. Top performance in pharma fund (Assisting in fund management from 2016 to 2019) Able to identify the reversal in US generic cycle in late 2016 and kept underweight for US-centric co (Sun, Lupin, Dr Reddy). Allocated high weight to India-centric co such as Abbott, Sanofi, Alkem, Cipla. Later on, added biopharma co too. Stock calls have done very well – Ajanta, Torrent, IPCA, Divis For the 3-year and 5 year period the fund is ranked at 1 among 4 funds in the category. My top bottom-up holdings are Cipla, Divis, Torrent, IPCA
