Dogs Playing for Life™ mentors shelters and individuals to increase live saving and quality of life by introducing dogs to one another and allowing them to express natural tendencies; to play. DPFL methodically teaches shelters through an information packed presentation followed by practice on the ground with the shelter’s dogs. Participants learn important skills to read dog play styles and body language, matchmaking skills to produce the safest and most enjoyable playgroups, and how to implement this essential enrichment tool into every day shelter routines. DPFL playgroups result in more accurate assessments, increased freedom and reduced stress, maximized volunteer and staff resources, better behavior in and out of the kennels, training support, a more natural, calm environment, and better adoptions. In sum, the DPFL program teaches shelters how to make sheltering easier on their dogs and the people that care for them.In 2017, DPFL expanded our successful programming with the opening of Canine Center, Florida (CCF). CCF is our first advanced training and behavior facility for unowned dogs that are suffering behaviorally. We review their histories and then professionally assess each individual dog to determine the best course of action for a positive outcome, whenever possible. To date, Dogs Playing for Life has performed beyond our projections with an 88% positive outcome rate for dogs served at Canine Center Florida.Organizational Accomplishments To Date:*Nearly 300 shelters across the U.S. served through our Every Dog, Every Day! enrichment seminars and training*Development of mentorship programs for shelter staff and volunteers that have served nearly 200 attendees*Building of virtual webinar trainings for shelter staff across the country and creation of an online learning library to support shelters in their continuing education*Creation of a shadow program for shelter staff and volunteers to learn hands-on skills at Canine Center Florida
