Instructional Leadership: Ensure high-quality specially designed instruction and academic excellence for over students with disabilities, preK-12, in Virginia\'s second largest school division. Maximize the least restrictive environment for students to access the general curriculum using high-quality instructional materials and high-leverage practices. Focus on IEP goal progress to support on-time graduation through achievements in early childhood special education, reading, mathematics, school attendance, positive behavior, and drop-out prevention. Operations Leadership: Manage a budget of over $35M, ensuring effective use of local ($16M) and federal ($19M) funds for students with disabilities. Develop enrollment and program projections for public and separate schools, including 80+ preschool programs. Human Relations Leadership: Hire, induct, support, retain, and lead more than 160 employees including instructional administrators (cluster school support) and specialists: assistive technology, adaptive physical education, audiologist, autism, board certified behavior specialists, comprehensive service specialists (social workers), early childhood special education inclusion resource teachers, deaf/hard of hearing, sign language interpreters/cued language transliterators, vision, orientation and mobility, parent resource center, and financial/administrative support employees – all as “care team support” for schools, staff, and students. Impact Highlights: Initiated and implement division wide system professional learning including: new special education teacher induction program (years 1-3); teacher assistant series, Assistant Principal “Launch” series for APs and admin interns, and co-teaching. Lead monthly administrator learning; reading intervention; expected instruction for students who access the adapted curriculum/preschool; and lead multiple division-wide conferences focused on instructional high leverage practices for staff and families.
