Most universities are adopting artificial intelligence at the organizational level, while the most consequential changes are unfolding at the human level. By the time this gap becomes visible, the institutional design is often already locked in.My work sits inside that gap.I am a Full Professor of Strategy at University Canada West and a doctoral researcher in Educational Technology & Learning Design at Simon Fraser University. My research and practice focus on how artificial intelligence is reshaping academic work, faculty expertise, and institutional decision-making in higher education.Through the Faculty Futures initiative, I examine how AI adoption intersects with academic roles, disciplinary knowledge, and the evolving structure of universities.In parallel, through the Lab2Market program at SFU VentureLabs, supported by Mitacs, I am developing an AI-enabled tool for inclusive instructional decision-making. The aim is not simply to introduce more technology into universities, but to design systems that recognize where intelligence actually resides in higher education: in faculty expertise, pedagogical judgment, and the daily decisions that shape learning.My work bridges strategy, educational technology, and institutional design, with a focus on ensuring that AI systems strengthen rather than displace the human capabilities that universities exist to cultivate.
