ABOUT AHMED AL-AWAMER

With over 25 years of experience in medicine, palliative care and medical education, I am a passionate and dedicated clinician, educator, and researcher. I currently serve as an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education at University Health Network, Canada’s largest academic research health organization. Over the years, I co-founded award winning internationally renowned educational programs such as the Palliative Medicine Clinical Fellowship Program, and the Transitions Program for New International Fellows. I also work as a Staff Palliative Medicine Specialist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada’s top cancer centre, where I co-founded the Adolescent and Young Adult Palliative Care Clinic at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. I provide compassionate and holistic care to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. I hold a Master of Health Science degree in Bioethics, and I have expertise in ethical issues, communication skills, and interprofessional collaboration in palliative care. I have also contributed to multiple publications, presentations, and grants on various topics related to palliative care, such as quality of life, decision making, and end-of-life care for Adolescents and Young Adults. I am committed to advancing the field of palliative care and medical education through excellence in teaching, research, and practice, and to fostering a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare.
