ABOUT VALERIA AGUIRRE

I’m a fourth-year Bachelor of Architecture student at Rice University with a passion for designing for resilience—particularly in the areas of disaster relief, emergency housing, and community recovery. My interests lie at the intersection of architecture, humanitarian work, and social equity, and I’m especially drawn to participatory processes that center vulnerable communities in shaping their built environments. Through the Loewenstern Fellowship, I worked with Fundación Oficios in Benavídez, Argentina, contributing to community programs focused on skill-building and labor access. At Rice, I co-led HACER, a 500+ member cultural organization, where I managed a large team to plan 30+ events and led a campaign to make our programming more inclusive and representative of the diverse Latin American diaspora. I bring technical proficiency in Rhino, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, laser cutting, and woodshop model-making, along with strong leadership, communication, and bilingual Spanish fluency. I’m also building language skills in French and Italian to support my interest in working across cultures and borders. Currently based in Los Angeles, I’m looking to connect with mission-driven studios—locally and internationally—focused on equity, resilience, and community-centered design. Whether through internships or full-time roles after graduation, I’m eager to contribute to work that makes architecture a tool for social change.
