About Ye Luo

I am a counselor, an educator, and a researcher. I have a Bachelor\'s degree in Applied Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Community Mental Health Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education. I am a National Certified Counselor and a Professional Licensed Counselor in Texas.As a bilingual Chinese (Mandarin)/ English counselor, I enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with various issues, including depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, grief, and stage of life issues. In order to meet every individual’s needs, I have used different approaches in counseling, such as child-centered play therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy integrated with expressive art techniques. It is a great honor to hear personal stories from my clients and witness their growth. I believe people are fully capable of bettering themselves, and most of us strive for the best we can in the ways we have learned throughout our lives.As an educator of adult learners in higher education, I endorse Connected Teaching grounded in the framework of Relational Cultural Theory. I believe teaching should be tailored to the characteristics of adult learners and that we educators should endeavor to enhance the relationships with students through reaching out attempts, addressing power in the teaching and learning process, and modeling and maintaining relational clarity. My research identity is deeply rooted in my personal and professional experiences. My recent research interests include bilingual and multicultural counseling, Asian racial and cultural identities, and technology use in counseling and counselor education. As a researcher, I embrace collaboration because teamwork makes the dream work!
