I work as a consultant on HMRC\'s Multi-Channel Digital Tax Platform (MDTP). This is an AWS-based Platform-as-a-Service and the largest PaaS within the UK Government. It\'s home to 1,200+ Scala Microservices, 70 digital service teams and over people. MDTP powers 99% of HMRC\'s public-facing digital services, including the Government’s Covid-19 services; the Job Retention Scheme (Furlough), the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme and Eat Out to Help Out. I oversee a product engineering group of ~100 people, spread across 7 agile teams, which are responsible for building, maintaining, enhancing and securing the platform itself. The multidisciplinary teams include Delivery Leads, Product Owners, Architects, Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Business Analysts, Interaction Designers, Content Designers and Front-End Devs. Key platform tooling: AWS, Scala, Play, Terraform, Lambda, Python, Mongo, Jenkins, Docker, ELK Engagement highlights - Built a talented and cohesive Bristol-based engineering group, from 0 to ~100 people in <18 months - Carefully managed the migration of work away from existing Canary Wharf teams to the engineers in Bristol, without any impact to service and whilst improving delivery - Drove our teams to transition to 100% remote working, overnight and before lockdown in March 2020- Contributed to the timely delivery of critical Covid-19 support services and associated counter-fraud systems, in <4 weeks from the Chancellor’s television announcement - Received a \"well-done\" tweet from the inventor of the world wide web - Led the development of a new vision and roadmap for MDTP - Acted as Delivery Lead & Product Owner for 3 separate platform teams, building new tooling to make it easier for our tenants to deliver value quickly - Established a new Application Security team, driving a fundamental overhaul of the security practices across the platform and its tenant services
