ABOUT ALISON FITZGERALD
My practice focuses on international arbitration and international trade and investment. I have experience advising and representing clients in ad hoc arbitrations and arbitrations administered under the auspices of major arbitral institutions, in both commercial and investor-state disputes. In the course of this work, I have developed extensive dispute resolution expertise in a number of industry sectors, such as upstream oil and gas, construction, infrastructure, mining, natural resources, rail, defence procurement, and software licensing. I regularly advise clients in areas of regulatory compliance, including economic sanctions and business ethics / anti-corruption, and represent clients in domestic trade remedy proceedings. I also advise clients on human rights issues arising in connection with foreign investment. Finally, I have represented clients in complex litigation under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, involving claims under sections 7, 8 and 15 of the Charter, and have appeared in various domestic proceedings before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Courts of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. Licensed in Ontario (2006) and New York (2007).
