Network Rail is the publicly owned operator of Britain’s rail infrastructure, connecting the nation and driving economic, environmental, and social success by ensuring safe, modern, sustainable, and reliable transport for passengers and freight across the UK. Scotland’s Railway accounts for 20% of the UK rail network, linking seven cities and supporting urban, rural, and cross-border travel - driving economic growth while delivering a greener, more efficient railway. Across Scotland, Network Rail will invest £4.8bn between April 2024 and March 2029 to improve punctuality, reduce delays, and enhance resilience in the face of climate challenges - ensuring a safe, sustainable, and reliable railway for passengers, freight customers, and taxpayers. In partnership with the UK and Scottish Governments, industry partners, and communities, Network Rail Scotland plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing critical infrastructure - from multi-million-pound renewal projects to preserving iconic landmarks like the Forth Bridge. As Head of Strategic Communications, Martin leads the newly created Strategic Communications unit, overseeing a high-performing team delivering impactful storytelling, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement. He is responsible for insights and market research; corporate narrative; executive engagement; delivering comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, integrated communications strategies; and corporate publications - ensuring Scotland’s Railway is visible, valued, and understood.
