About Afshin Shabani
I have a PhD in Environmental Science (hydrology and water quality), Master’s degree in GIS and Remote sensing, and Bachelor degree in Natural Resources Engineering. Currently I am working as a water resources scientist/engineer at Tetra Tech engineering consulting firm. My primary research interests are hydrology and water quality studies, geospatial modeling, image processing, and machine learning. Because of my interdisciplinary educations and experiences, I can work with a team to create ideas and develop tools to solve real world environmental problems. I enjoy Python programming which I frequently use to create tools for my research. Some of programs that I have developed are a coupled Hydrodynamic (HEC-RAS 2D) and water quality model (WASP) for simulating fate and transport of contaminated soils and sediments in flood, a coupled SWAT and CE-QUAL-W2 model for simulating lake water quality condition, and scripts for automatic calibration of CE-QUAL-W2 and WASP models and data visualizations.
