About Aekem S.

I’m a high school student passionate about visual storytelling, leadership, and cultural advocacy. As a director, cinematographer, and editor, I’ve worked on multiple documentaries and short films. Through these projects, I’ve developed strong skills in video production, post-production, interviewing, archival research, and collaborative storytelling.At my school, I’m known as the go-to filmmaker and videographer, and students, faculty, and staff regularly contact me to create videos that promote events, highlight important topics, and capture the spirit of our community. Beyond film, I’m deeply involved in my community. I serve on Worcester Academy’s Board of Monitors, the school’s most prestigious student leadership body. I founded our Filmmaking Club and lead the South Asian Affinity Group. As a practicing Sikh, I also teach young students about Sikh music, history, and script at Khalsa School, allowing me to share my culture and helping others connect with their identity.Whether I am on a film set, in the classroom, or on the basketball court, I take pride in being a team player and a leader who listens, supports, and creates with purpose.

1. Head Monitor

   Worcester Academy

   May 2025 — Present

   The Board of Monitors embodies the highest level of student leadership in the school. They consist of conscientious and dedicated students who serve the Academy Community and uphold its traditions. Candidates submit a platform sheet that outlines their ideas and initiatives should they be elected, followed by a brief interview with the Student Life Office. The next step is to deliver a speech to the Upper and Lower School communities. Based on their speeches, new members are elected by the student body in the spring. The Board serves as a liaison between students and faculty and administration. Class and club leaders must periodically report to the Board on the state of their classes and clubs respectively. In the fall of the new school year, the postgraduate students elect one of their group to serve on the Board. Elected offices include Head Monitor, Second Monitor, Sergeant at Arms, Master Prefect, Treasurer, Oversight Monitor, and International Monitor.
