ABOUT AEIRESS STANCIL
Aeiress Stancil is a sophomore Environmental Science major with a minor in Film & Visual Culture Studies at Spelman College located in Atlanta, GA. She is passionate about the intersection of climate science, journalism, and storytelling, with aspirations of becoming a broadcast meteorologist and environmental journalist who makes complex environmental issues accessible to the public. Focusing on environmental disparities in Black and historically disenfranchised communities.On campus, Aeiress serves as a Digital Engagement Intern with the Sustainable Spelman Office, where she supports campus-wide sustainability initiatives through creative storytelling, digital campaigns, and student engagement strategies. Her work focuses on translating environmental issues into accessible, culturally relevant content that empowers the Spelman community to take action.Aeiress is also a Building Improvement Toolkits (BIT) Fellow through the Resilient HBCUs Initiative, in partnership with the Southface Institute and Sustain Our Future Foundation. As a BIT Building Fellow, she contributes to sustainability assessments and building performance evaluations that advance climate resilience and infrastructure equity at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Through this role, she engages in research, data analysis, and collaborative problem-solving to support sustainable campus development.Beyond sustainability work, Aeiress is deeply involved in journalism and media. She serves as an editor for two college newspapers, where she leads reporting, editing, and content development while mentoring fellow student journalists. Through her editorial work, she amplifies underrepresented voices and covers issues related to climate, culture, and campus life. Aeiress is committed to using media and science communication as tools for advocacy, public education, and community empowerment, bridging her passions for environmental science, journalism, and broadcast storytelling.
