About Advait Nagle
Medicinal chemist with expertise in small molecule design, hit-to-lead and lead optimization for phenotypic as well as target-based project kinases for both peripheral and CNS diseases. I have a diverse and well-established track record with two compounds in human clinical trials. In addition to my medicinal chemistry skill set, I have numerous high impact publications, delivered talks in national meetings and taught Novartis sponsored medicinal chemistry modules at Stanford.I have been part of GNF since my postdoctoral fellowship under the tutelage of Pete Schultz and Nat Gray (currently at DFCI). Over the years, I have been part of numerous therapeutic programs ranging from oncology (kinases), infectious diseases (malaria, leishmania and Chagas disease), regenerative medicines and CNS diseases. I have co-led external programs in collaboration with Wellcome trust UK and have managed expectations with internal as well as external stakeholders. I have exposure in managing CROs was well as drafting claims for patent applications in liaison with attorneys. Currently, I am co-leading projects in diverse disease areas and am part of the chemistry senior management which influences portfolio of projects across the department. My most impactful work has been on infectious diseases, where we discovered a compound series based on phenotypic screen(s) that had cidal activity on parasites that could affect kinetoplastid diseases namely Chagas disease, Leishmaniasis and Human African Trypanosomiasis. This ultimately led to the discovery of LXE408 which is in Phase 1 clinical trials for Leishmaniasis. In parallel, we were able to decipher kinetoplastid proteasome as the target for this class of compounds. Our work was highlighted in Nature for the discovery of novel target for this group of diseases. I was also instrumental in the discovery of KAF156, an antimalarial compound which affects all stages of malaria cycle. Currently, this compound is in phase II trials in Africa.
