ABOUT ADRIJA BHATTACHARJEE

I am currently a Masters\'s student in the Higher Education Administration and Policy Program at Northwestern University, interning as a Graduate Assistant for the MSHE program and an Intern for the Office of Community Enrichment. As a University of Rochester alumni earning two degrees in Political Science and Bioethics, I’ve dedicated myself to the work of public service and civil rights advocacy for underrepresented communities. As a first-generation Bangladeshi American woman from New Orleans, Louisiana, I aim to improve on any matter relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all spaces I’m a part of, whether it’s in the classroom, extracurriculars or community. I’m pursuing my graduate education to learn more about bridging gaps in higher education, with a focus on developing my skills in community building, outreach, and engagement with communities both in and out of the classroom. I have experience interning in several departments within Higher Education (Career Services, DEI Offices, Admissions, Alumni Relations, Marketing & Communications), shadowing judges, working in law firms and and legal associations, mobilizing advocacy coalitions, mentoring K-12 and post-secondary students on their educational pursuits, and participating in active community service work. I am interested in doing research and field work on topics within educational policy, specifically the impact of social & economic changes on minority populations within higher education, how the intersection between politics and public health affects community and sense of belonging, and how activism on a global scale affects international alliances.
