About Adria Peterkin
I consider myself an unconventional thinker, a mover and a shaker. One who dares to construct her own door for opportunity to knock. In actuality, this looks like a passion that straddles the line between social engagement, creativity, and science. For me, this is the brink of scientific advancement; cultivating science to enhance the engagement of society. My curiosity generally thrives at the intersection of chemical and nuclear engineering. Here are some highlights:1. Studying Chemical Engineering at a Historically Black University (HBCU) cultivated my definition of sustainability to include both environmental preservation and environmental justice- I enjoy research that has practical components of sustainability, as defined above- I enjoy collaborating with people from diverse skillsets, education, and backgrounds, e.g. my work with the GEAR-UP - I enjoy doing hands-on projects, e.g. my work with the NAC/NINE program, Working in a Laboratory2. Nuclear Reactors are really cool and complex, and they play a critical role in our sustainable energy future- It is important to me that I focus my research on developing the nuclear fuel cycle and advanced nuclear reactors - I enjoy applying my skills to different aspects of the nuclear industry, e.g. Nuclear Security, Nuclear PolicyIf you have any shared interest or you\'re just stopping by, feel free to say Hello!
