About Adrianne Elliott

With over six years of work experience in legal and policy research, I am a passionate and driven Research Assistant at the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality, where I contribute to advancing the center\'s mission of developing effective policies and practices to reduce poverty and inequality in the United States. As a JD candidate at the Georgetown University Law Center, I am also pursuing my interest in law and social justice, with a focus on federal Indian law, health law, administrative law, and civil rights. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, as a Cherokee citizen, Cooke Scholar, and a Gates Millennium Scholar. In my current role, I research and collaboratively draft a report on federal financial aid programs available to parents, analyzing the eligibility criteria, application process, and impact of these programs on low-income families. Previously, I gained valuable experience as a Legal Intern at the ABA Center on Children and the Law, where I researched, provided legal analysis, drafted materials, and collaboratively designed focus groups to address racial bias in medical reports to child protective services and the resulting legal processes. As a Legal and Policy Fellow at the National Council of Urban Indian Health, I researched and analyzed regulations and their impacts to draft comments to various federal agencies, and drafted a legal memorandum regarding the definition of an Indian child in different statutes and litigation contexts.
