View department →

London, GB

My first “proper” role post Company85 has a somewhat familiar feel about it. Together with my long suffering partner-in-crime, Bill Trim, we are jointly heading Acora\'s professional services division. Our combined grey hairs will be bringing some real world experience to this rapidly growing business - with a focus on delivering excellent customer projects at the heart of it.

EDUCATION

ABOUT ADRIAN SPINK

So this is the section where you tell everyone about your complex belief system and chart the well planned journey through your career. My principles are pretty straightforward. I think you should treat everyone as you\'d like to be treated yourself. I give up my seat for pregnant women on the tube. My kids go to state school \"because it was good enough for me\" and I struggle to tolerate bad grammar. Some might call it integrity, but I\'m basically one of those plain-speaking Yorkshiremen everyone seems to joke about. And yes, I do like cricket. To be honest I never really had a career plan. A geography degree from Hull doesn\'t open many doors for a Northerner in the big smoke. Luckily for me the world of IT was a proper meritocracy and the ability to navigate a flow chart was more likely to get you a job than what tie you were wearing. I could say that I chose to work in a range of industries to give myself a broad vertical background. Automotive, Oil & Gas and Investment Banking all look quite slick when I write them down now. But it really wasn\'t that well thought through. The only remotely smart thing I did was spot that this UNIX thing seemed to be taking off.The same goes for my switch to a San Francisco dot.com in the late 90\'s.\"Internet Security\" sounded like it had legs, and the lure of share options dazzled. I didn\'t even recognise at the time that it was a switch from client-side to supply-side.But it was during my time at Company-i, surrounded by lots of clever people that I realised that I really, really like professional services. I never call it \"consulting\" because my suit isn\'t expensive enough to carry it off. PS is all about delivering something tangible for people who really like you if you do it well. Who\'ll then have a beer with you afterwards. And probably invite you back to do something else in the future. I guess I like solving problems and making things work better. And beer. Which is probably why I ended up setting up Company85.
