About Adrián Castillo-Allendes
I am a speech-language pathologist from Santiago, Chile, and a Fulbright alumnus. I hold master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology and Hearing and in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Universidad Mayor (Chile). I completed my PhD at Michigan State University and am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Iowa.My work focuses on laryngeal function across voice and swallowing, examining how phonatory tasks influence swallowing physiology and how exercise science principles can inform rehabilitation. I also develop clinically accessible tools for the assessment of laryngeal function, with emphasis on translational applications in hospital and occupational settings. In parallel, I study occupational voice disorders, particularly in teachers, to support prevention and evidence-based intervention strategies.
