As part of CUAir, I design and test electromechanical systems for our autonomous VTOL search-and-rescue aircraft. My work focuses on payload delivery systems. My past work includes:• Designed and tested the package airdrop winch system with PID-controlled braking and IR encoder feedback for payload height and speed tracking.• Developed a custom mechatronic string release system for a clean separation between the aircraft and the payload.• Built autonomous string respooling system to evenly rewind airdrop winch string for smooth and reliable airdrop functionality• Developed a custom circuit and C++ algorithm to evenly thread string for a smooth airdrop
