Addie Smith founded Studio Adelia in 2018 as a creative capsule for meaningful expression through fine art. With a mission driven by her love of beautiful experiences, human connection, and place-making, Addie transformed the brand in 2024 to a lighting design consulting firm with the aim of elevating the human experience with the subtle and transformative power of light. With light, Studio Adelia aspires to enliven the built environment with drama - inspiring people to do, feel, and be better. Addie is continually moved by her observations and emotions in space through dance, art, and light. She brings this creative presence and energy to each project anew, where she tailors light aesthetics and functionality with architectural rigor. With over a decade of experience as an architectural lighting designer, Addie brings sophisticated ingenuity, elevated practicality, and a technical eye to a wide range of project types – from luxury retail, residential, and hospitality to mixed-use, civic, exterior facade, site, and landscape. Addie is a Certified Lighting Designer, holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a degree in Interior Design, and a Certificate in Design Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She speaks at conferences nationwide, has volunteered with the IES, IALD, and WILD, guest lectures for Interior Design programs, and consults manufacturers on luminaire design.Her creative niche of contribution includes advocating for light justice, co-creating feminine-bodied communities, and advancing lighting expertise on health and wellness, environmental psychology, architectural history, the place-making of Home, luxury lifestyle, brand positioning, and storytelling in the built environment. She pursues leadership development, mentoring, and creating a more empathetic, vulnerable, and cross-pollinated studio culture. In her free time, she dances with the Denver Diamond Dolls chorus girl troupe, enjoys vintage swing dances and traditional jazz, and loves plants, food, fashion, and volleyball.
