About Adam Smith
My career began at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where I built a broad foundation in business fundamentals. Toward the end of my degree, I became increasingly drawn to retail and the complexity of how merchandising, pricing, and inventory decisions come together at scale. My early retail experience came through Merchandising roles at Kohl’s, where I developed a strong grounding in merchandising strategy, buying decisions, inventory flow, and the downstream impact category-level choices have on store execution. That experience shaped how I think about retail, grounding analytics in the realities of how products move, sell, and perform on the sales floor.Time spent at Uline as a Buyer deepened my understanding of supply chain economics, distribution center networks, and the operational discipline required to support high service levels at scale. Managing large SKU portfolios across vendors and distribution centers reinforced how closely pricing, inventory, and supply chain decisions are interconnected. The majority of my career has been at Tractor Supply Company, where I’ve progressed through roles in pricing, competitive intelligence, and merchandising analytics. Over time, I’ve helped build and scale analytics capabilities that inform pricing strategy, category management, margin protection, and enterprise-level decision-making. My focus has evolved from individual analyses to leading teams, establishing frameworks, and developing decision systems that enable consistent, disciplined decision-making across leaders and functions.Today, I lead Pricing & Merchandising Analytics with a focus on setting direction and translating advanced analytics into clear, actionable decisions that improve revenue, margin, and long-term performance. I care deeply about clarity, accountability, and ensuring analytics are practical, trusted, and embedded in how decisions are made across the organization.
