ABOUT ADAM OTTAWAY

Professionally, my whole life has been about data. As a Project Manager for Vivid Interface, data collection and analysis was only a small part of the job: I needed to liaise with stakeholders and drill down into their briefs to truly understand what they wanted, and how I was going to deliver that; I needed to understand respondents and drive the questions to gather the information that would answer my clients\' questions; I had to liaise with staff and suppliers on-site to ensure that the fieldwork was being conducted, on time, to spec and with minimal issues - and when there were issues, I needed to figure out ways to overcome them. Only once all of that was done, could I really dive into the data, tweeze the stories from the noise and present the datasets in a way that the clients would understand, would use and would find benefit from. I learned a lot as a Project Manager, not only about data collection and analysis, but also about multi-tasking, working to tight deadlines, dealing with the minutiae of the logistics of projects - and sometimes I was doing all of this in a foreign country without a native speaker to help me.Moving to Glasgow allowed me to focus on data collection over analysis, and I learned how to use an entirely new set of tools: SPSS and web survey software. My eye for detail and culture of quality was vital for delivering clean datasets for clients to a high standard, and in a quick turnaround.Every job I\'ve had has pushed me out of a comfort zone and required me to think, and to learn new software. Beyond market research, the greatest skills I\'ve learned have been Logical Thinking, Problem Solving and Independence. Give me a problem, and I will sit down and solve it using whatever tools I\'m given, and making new ones along the way. Specialities: Logical Thinking, Problem Solving and Independence. Survey Design and Programming, Dataset Integrity, Data Analysis.
