ABOUT ADAM OLSHEFSKY

I’m a Program Development Manager at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. SEI conducts research and engineering to assist government organizations, primarily the DoD, with navigating the demand for rapidly adopting new technology. This includes helping people learn how to write requirements for AI products, how to assess proposals and test products, how to design critical systems, and how to apply agile and DevSecOps among many more capabilities. SEI does this while conducting research to advance the state-of-the-art in these areas. I work in SEI’s Software Solution Division and focus my efforts on the US Air Force. In prior roles, I advised DoD leadership on artificial intelligence and executive analytics as well as coordinated multidisciplinary teams, tracked performance, and followed ethical AI principles. I have over 25 years of experience in leadership and technical management roles, spanning various domains such as networking, data, AI, hosting, aerospace, and manufacturing.One of my most defining characteristics is my ability to independently identify and meet needs. I naturally think about what is happening, instinctively see improvements, and don\'t hesitate to get to work. While I was active duty in the Air Force, no one told me to learn Visual Basic and create a database of munitions for the Air National Guard or to find a way to save the National Science Foundation $1M, but I saw the need and did the work. While working in the private sector, I came up with new ways to train customers, I decided to map a product to a national database and use it to create a new product line, and I learned complex technologies and organized lunch and learns to share that knowledge with peers. More recently, I wasn\'t directed to work on an AI strategy for the DoD, to assist with press releases, or to reach out to other units to try to increase collaboration and knowledge sharing, but that\'s what I did, because the need was there. Perhaps equally as important was that I had supervisors who let me pursue those solutions and advance their organizations. As a certified PMP and CSM, I apply agile methodologies and best practices to deliver value to stakeholders, simplify processes, remove barriers, and run efficient projects and product development efforts. I also leverage my business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit to run EDS Precision Systems, a family-owned company that produces a low-cost and accurate level and a high-quality tight wire alignment tool for industrial applications.
