ABOUT ADAM KHAN-QURESHI

I am a NDM-Prize funded DPhil (PhD) student at the University of Oxford (Jenner Institute), supervised by Prof Sandy Douglas & Prof Adrian Hill. My work within the Douglas Group involves engineering viral antigens for vaccine development, using a range of molecular biology and structural biochemistry techniques. I graduated with first-class honours Masters of Biological Sciences in Biochemistry (averaging 85%) from the University of Warwick. I had consistently performed highly during my undergraduate studies, having been the highest ranked student in the School of Life sciences and having been awarded class & cohort prizes for top performance. During my final year I had demonstrated particularly strong writing and presenting skills, having achieved 91% and 100% in my MBio thesis and symposium presentation respectively. I am passionate about scientific research and the pursuit of knowledge, having gained experience within both an academic and industrial research setting. I have conducted research on the plant secretory pathway and response to infection in the Frigerio Group, where I was awarded competitive funding from the Undergraduate Research Summer Scheme to complete my project. My work has been recognised as co-authorship on a manuscript being prepared. I had also undertaken a 12-month industrial placement at AstraZeneca in the Cell Line Development and Engineering team, investigating the molecular mechanisms of aggregation of a novel bispecific fragment antibody.
