WORK HISTORY
Sr Ux Innovation Strategist @Navy Federal Credit Union
Vienna, VA, US
I originated this role and built what it means from scratch. This is the work I love the most. I designed and operationalized the Exploration Studio, an internal innovation incubator built around structured, hypothesis-driven sprints where we imagine future experiences, prototype them, and test them with members before the organization commits to building anything. I also developed the enterprise innovation framework that underpins it, defining innovation horizons, decision gates, and the criteria that separate genuine experimentation from execution.AI is woven into how I work. I use it to accelerate competitive research, synthesize complex landscapes, pressure-test assumptions, and build structured discovery artifacts that hold up in a sprint. I’ve developed prompt architectures that translate directly into executive-ready documentation and prototype briefs.I also led the development of our executive presentation style guide and template, and formed and led our Presentation Design Community of Practice, a cross-organizational community of designers focused on elevating the quality of strategic communication across the enterprise.

ABOUT ADAM BURRELL
I’m endlessly curious about what comes next. And I’ve spent nearly 20 years using storytelling and design to help organizations understand what that means for the people they serve. Not in an abstract way. In the very practical sense of wanting to understand what people will need before they know they need it, and then figuring out how to make it real. That curiosity has been the through line of my entire career.Storytelling is how I do that work. It’s how I help organizations build genuine empathy for the people they serve, align around the problems worth solving, and move forward with confidence. Whether I’m developing a UX vision, running an innovation sprint, or presenting to the Board, storytelling is always the ingredient that makes it land.Over the past 20 years at Navy Federal, I’ve had the privilege of working at the frontier of what’s possible, helping to establish UX practice, launch mobile banking, and co-found an internal design lab where we learned to move fast and think big.More recently I designed and built the Exploration Studio from the ground up, including its innovation framework and operating model. It’s an internal incubator built around structured sprints where we imagine future experiences, prototype them, and test them with real people before the organization commits to building anything. It’s the work I love most, and I’m proud of what it’s become.I’ve always believed that the best products don’t just function well. They fit into people’s lives in ways that feel almost inevitable, like they were always supposed to exist. Getting to that place requires asking genuinely open questions early and staying curious long enough to find real answers.AI is woven into how I work. I use it to accelerate competitive research, synthesize complex landscapes, pressure-test assumptions, and build structured discovery artifacts that actually hold up in a sprint. I’ve developed prompt architectures that translate directly into executive-ready documentation and prototype briefs. It’s not a novelty for me. It’s a real part of how I move faster and think more clearly. At the end of the day I want to help organizations imagine and build things that genuinely improve how people live. That’s what gets me up in the morning.
