   In 2020, I launched a company in Seattle that reimagines access to outdoor recreation: a rental marketplace with community at its core called GeerGarage. GeerGarage is the answer to a problem I’ve seen firsthand adventuring in the Pacific Northwest: Equipment is expensive so many don’t have access to it. When they do, it mostly sits unused. This waste isn’t just material. Outdoor gear helps folks experience nature in a way that transforms them into fierce ambassadors for the environment. just like myself. I’ll never forget the moment I realized just how much global warming was changing the snowpack on Mount Rainier. So, what if we shared? Community is critical in the fight against climate change. Our platform leverages technology to connect outdoor-loving locals and foster a support hub that helps reduce waste, share support and open (out)doors. It’s a place where we share to save. Save money, save hassle and ultimately save the planet. Instead of spending on camping equipment, now it costs just $150 to go out and enjoy Washington’s natural beauty, plus you get real advice and keep cash within the immediate local economy. The more people are able to experience the outdoors, the more folks will value and protect it – making us stronger in the fight against climate change. Climate guilt and anxiety are real issues for our cause, so I wanted to offer an alternative. Fortunately, people love using our platform! Washington is the perfect backyard for our movement: to get society prioritizing the planet (through play), one rental at a time.
