Research & Innovation, Leeds PAIN Research Group:I assist in the coordination of clinical trials for spinal cord stimulation and neuromodulation therapies, handling patient recruitment, scheduling, data collection, and regulatory paperwork to keep everything running smoothly.I’ve taken the lead on managing some studies from start to finish, including protocol updates and documentation, while making sure everything stays fully compliant with GCP and trust SOPs.I run research outpatient clinics on my own for patients with chronic neuropathic pain, taking consent, conducting and scoring questionnaires, completing assessments, and writing letters to GPs.I work closely with consultants, research nurses, and governance teams to make sure our studies are ethically sound and meet all clinical and regulatory standards.I’ve helped improve patient follow-up attendance by building trust, communicating clearly, and keeping appointments well organised.I take ownership of the day-to-day running of trials, making sure patients are supported, data is accurate, and timelines are met.

ABOUT ADAM LEY

I have a strong grounding in translational research, study design, analysis and evaluation, shaped through my MSc in Psychiatric Research at King’s College London. This foundation has been further enriched by my work in research delivery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where I have gained firsthand insight into how studies unfold within real NHS clinical settings. Through managing study data, supporting amendments, reporting adverse events, documenting protocol deviations and assisting with monitoring, I have developed a clear and practical understanding of the operational realities that underpin high‑quality research. My experience also extends to direct clinical involvement in outpatient environments, where I independently conduct delegated study visits and take the lead on two studies within our team. I administer questionnaires, carry out assessments, review patient‑reported outcomes, write GP letters and ensure records are accurate and up to date. When concerns arise, I escalate them appropriately. Throughout all activity, I stay firmly within my scope of practice, communicate openly with clinical colleagues and consistently work in line with Good Clinical Practice, the UK Policy Framework and Trust SOPs.I am committed to continuous learning and am actively exploring Clinical Research Practitioner and Clinical Research Associate roles where I can deepen my expertise and contribute meaningfully to patient‑focused, evidence‑based research. I am motivated by work that improves outcomes and helps ensure people receive the most appropriate and up‑to‑date care.Outside of my professional life, I enjoy learning more about psychology, volunteering to support mental‑health advocacy and staying active through football, boxing and padel.
