About Adam Langer

I’m a writer and editor. I was born in Chicago and I lived for a little while in Bloomington, Indiana, but I don’t like to talk about that all that much. I’ve published a memoir (“My Father’s Bonus March”) and five novels (“Crossing California,” “The Washington Story,” “Ellington Boulevard,” “The Thieves of Manhattan” and “The Salinger Contract.” I’ve got a few other books in the works right now, but until they’re published, I won’t talk about them all that much either. Ditto for a couple of theater and film projects. I write essays and criticism. You may have seen some of my stuff in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Chicago Tribune, The Wall Street Journal or somewhere else. Back in the day, I was a theater critic and features writer for The Chicago Reader. Back in Chicago, I also ran a theater company and film production company. These days, when I’m not working on novels or writing, I serve as culture editor of The Forward and Forward.com and I teach writing at various places, including the 92nd Street Y. There’s family stuff too—wife, kids, dog. And if I have any time, you may find me in Central Park or Riverside Park, reading Elena Ferrante, Edna O’Brien or Virginia Woolf, or listening to Serial, Embedded, Sound Opinions or Song Exploder.
