About Adam Conner-Simons

I have had two careers to date - in communications/journalism and mental health counseling.I graduated with a mental health counseling master\'s degree from UMass-Boston and am now a license-eligible counselor based in Cambridge. I was previously a group facilitator and clinician at Neighborhood Counseling and Community Services (NCCS), a nonprofit in Somerville. I work individually with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, and other issues, incorporating a mix of modalities that include humanistic, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and parts work. I\'ve helped lead groups focused on chronic pain, mindfulness for young adults, and men’s mental health.I also have an extensive career as a university communications director, consultant, writer & music journalist. I\'ve spent 20 years in journalism & public relations, with particular expertise in media outreach, social media strategy, scientific communications, and translating dense technical concepts for general audiences. I\'ve overseen communications for multiple academic institutions, including MIT\'s largest research lab (the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab) and Cornell University\'s NYC-based engineering school Cornell Tech. I\'ve led efforts in content creation, media outreach, digital strategy, social media and branding, as well as speechwriting and inbound media requests. I have also previously done communications for Brandeis University, New York University, and Pomona College, and contributed journalistic stories to such outlets as the New York Times, Slate Magazine, the Huffington Post and the Boston Globe.I\'ve also consulted for numerous corporate and non-profit clients, helping them with topics such as-media outreach-social media strategy-speechwriting-media training-scientific communications-general copywriting/editing needsThrough this work I\'ve helped create PR campaigns that present the interests of clients within compelling storylines in the larger media landscape. Interested in any of these services? Drop me a line.I also speak about communications, PR and media relations at conferences for organizations such as the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Harvard\'s Communicating Science Conference (ComSciCon), HOW Design Live, and the National Association of Science Writers (NASW).
